SIERRA DE SAN LUIS
South of the coastal savannah of Falcon state in northwestern Venezuela stands a mountain range known as the Sierra de San Luis or Sierra de Falcon. It has an average altitude of 1000 meters and its highest point is in the Cerro Galicia at 1600 masl. For the visitor is a tropical cloud forest ecosystem with evergreen vegetation of an imposing exuberance. Its main attraction is the archaeological site of the "The Spanish Trail" a stretch of the old road paved in colonial times that connected the city of Coro with mountain villages. A perfect combination of history and culture of Venezuela with hiking and outdoors, you shall not miss.
The Sierra is the Falcon state watershed and its many rivers, lakes and reservoirs provide water for the main towns of the region. In the Sierra you’ll also find: "Simas" or "Haitones" vertical caves due to water erosion, this water fills one of the largest underground lakes in South America. In addition you'll see: organic coffee plantations, oranges, cocoa, tropical fruits and the best views of the Paraguana Peninsula and the city of Coro with its big dunes. At the end take a bath at the natural pools of the Pozos de la Negrita.

FULL DAY TOUR TO SIERRA DE SAN LUIS

One day: Departure in the morning from the your posada or hotel in Coro. Then we head to the road connecting the city of Coro with the Sierra de San Luis. It is a mountain road that will offer incredible views as we ascend. We will see the village of Caujarao and La Negrita and have a beautiful view of the dam-lake of "El Isiro". We will continue our ascent and we will stop to have an overview of the Paraguana Peninsula and Coro with Los Medanos. Then take the road that leads to " The Spanish Trail" here we begin a beautiful walk of about three hours, along a cobblestone path with about 400 years of history, during the trek we can delve into organic coffee plantation and oranges. The first visit three caves "Acarite", "Zárraga" and "Cueva Seca" we can delve into the last two and thus enjoy a journey full of adrenaline and impressive rock formations and beautiful crystals. Continue the trek to the village of Cabure. There we expect to continue our jorney to El Haiton, a vertical cave of 305 meters deep that we can see from the upper chamber. Here too we’ll have a beautiful hike through a nature trail in the middle of the jungle. Continue to the town of Curimagua, where we will have lunch at an organic farm, a traditional dish made with local products. Now we descend again to the village of La Negrita. Here we take a detour. We leave our cars in the middle of the road and continue on foot, along a path in the middle of desert vegetation, passing by the ruins of "The Tinglao" a former market for slaves. Continue along the coast of the river to "Los Pozos de La Negrita" a beautiful set of springs where we take a gratifying bath to relax after a day of activities and hiking. On the horizon we have magnificent views of the dam The Isiro. After the bath back to our cars to return to Coro.
