The Orinoco Delta is a vast region located in the extreme east of Venezuela, here the Orinoco river divides into multiple streams and channels seeking their way out to the Atlantic through a thick swamp forest. The river banks are covered by lush vegetation of mangrove and rainforest that are home to the Warao indigenous group characterized by its ability to adapt to this unique aquatic environment, to the point that the name of the tribe " Warao " means" canoe man " or “people on canoes”

Visiting the Delta del Orinoco brings us closer to the majesty of the main river of Venezuela, to get into this unique ecosystem formed by intrinsic streams and creeks, backwoods, where wildlife live in perfect harmony with the natives of the area, from whom we will learn about their customs and traditions. "Jakera" is the greeting of the indigenous Warao and with it we welcome you and invite you to join one of our visits to this important lung cradle of ancient traditions vegetable

We offer you two travel itineraries to the Delta. They differ mainly in duration adapting to the time you have available for the visit. All itineraries described begin and end in San José de Buja (Maturin) and we can provide all the necessary means of transport to complete your itinerary from anywhere in the country.

AVAILABLE TOURS TO THE ORINOCO DELTA

 

1. - ORINOCO DELTA RIVER TOUR 3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS

Length: 3 days and 2 nights
Difficulty: Easy - All travelers
The optimal stay, three days to explore and relax surrounded by the lush vegetation of the river channels of the Orinoco Delta
Day to day program: 
  1. Our adventure begins in the small town of San José de Buja, which we will access from Maturin (1 hour). Here we take a motor boat to take us to our lodge where we stay the next two nights. Along the way we will already be contemplating different species of birds like the blue and yellow macaws, toucans, parrots, screamers and sunbitterns. luckly we can also observe capuchin and howler monkeys. At the margins of the river we can see "stilts" wooden wall-less houses that are home to the Warao people, inhabitants of the area. Check in at jungle lodge and Immediately we will go for a boat ride near the lodge to take a glance of this breathtaking surroundings. Return to lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we make a boat tour in the "Rio Tigre" to more closely try to spot birds and wildlife, with luck we can observe many species of herons and other water birds, as well as reptiles like the green anaconda and the spectacled caiman. We will continue to stop at a small farm that offers one of the best sunset views in the Delta. Return to lodge for dinner. (A / C)

    After waking up with the sounds of howler monkeys and birds, we’ll have breakfast and then take a pair of rubber boots, (equipment available at lodge) for the activity that follows: A walk into the thick jungle. Our guide will be a Warao, who will gladly show us some survival skills and guidance through the thick vegetation. We will know about the raw material used to build their homes, the palmetto and the palm tree worm. At midday we’ll head back to lodge for lunch. During the afternoon we will pay a visit to the Warao settlements and thus know more about their customs, their homes, their beliefs and crafts making techniques. In our way back to the lodge, we will stop to watch the sunset and take a dip in the refreshing waters of the Orinoco. Dinner (D / A / C)

     

  3. Early in the morning, before breakfast, enjoy a quiet canoe ride, this time without a motor, to form part of the sunrise on the river with the awakening of birds and other animals. It's a magical opportunity to see birds like the chenchena and capuchin and enjoy the greenery and tranquility of the river with the first rays of daylight. We return for breakfast and the rest of the morning will be to continue exploring motorboat river channels in search of more species of wildlife. At noon we return to camp for lunch. In the afternoon return to San José de Buja, where transport will be waiting to take us to our next destination (Maturin - Ciudad Bolivar - Puerto Ordaz) (D / A).

2.- ORINOCO DELTA RIVER TOUR 2 DAYS / 1 NIGHT

Length: 2 days and 1 nights
Difficulty: Easy - All travelers
In case you don't have much time, here we offer you  a 2 days itinerary in which you go through most of the activities available but fitted in a smaller time frame.

 THE ORINOCO DELTA TOURS DON'T INCLUDE:

  • Transfers to San José de Buja - Normally not included as they can be from either Maturin airport, Ciudad Bolivar or Puerto Ordaz airport and the price as it is per vehicle can be shared by up to 4 passengers. At the moment of booking we can provide you all the informations on transfers services.

REMARKS & NOTES:

This itinerary may change depending on weather conditions at the time and the influx of visitors. The Delta can be visited throughout the whole year.
